As a professional photographer there are many ways to market my studio, but sometimes this old adage rings most true, in business and in life--"It's who you know."
Baby Ike's parents, Asheley and Jed, came to me in a roundabout way, that I will always be grateful for. Ike's mommy is a valued employee at a local branding and marketing firm who sometimes works with friends of mine Liam and Steph at Applehead Studio for their commercial photography needs. This extraordinary company has grown to love and appreciate Ike's mommy and wanted to give her a special gift of photography to honour her newborn and the growth of her little family. Applehead Studio, coincidentally also photographed Asheley and Ike's wedding and had nothing but wonderful things to say about this young couple, commenting that they are fun, easy-going, lovable people, and attractive to boot! Applehead referred the employer to me, as they do not specialize in newborn photography. In Asheley's bosses words "She is one of my most favourite people in the world and a close friend and co-worker." It struck me as something really very special for a company to go above and beyond like that for an employee and friend. We reached an agreement, and shortly afterwards Asheley was presented with a gift certificate for a newborn session and a beautiful 8x8 lay flat 20 page photo album.
It took mere minutes on the phone to make a connection with Asheley and know that we were going to have a really good time working together. Baby Ike surprised everyone by arriving 4 weeks before his due date, so the process was put on the fast track and we scheduled his session to happen within 2 days of our first intro call.
This little guy was 7 lbs 8 oz at birth, and we all remarked that it was very lucky he didn't go full term or he would have been a very large baby! Ike had flawless skin, he was very relaxed and sleepy (just how I like 'em!) and he LOVED the heat (the studio was almost 30 degrees by the time we finished the session!). He had the sweetest little expressive face, and he had so many adorable gas smiles. It made me want to climb into his little brain and find out what he was really thinking about with all those smiles and face scrunches.
I couldn't help but think about how lucky this little guy is to have such amazing, loving, and well loved parents. No doubt he is surrounded by people who will shower him with just as much love and adoration.
When Asheley and her mom came to the studio for their reveal and ordering session I was so excited to show them their photos, and relish in one last newborn cuddle with baby Ike. I look forward to seeing them again for pictures as he grows.
So, yes, often times it is who you know, and I'm so glad to now say I know Asheley and Jed and their amazing baby Ike. Thanks for the memories!
Here is the video that I shared with Asheley at her mom at the reveal and ordering session, when they get to see their photos for the first time. It's always an emotional moment in the studio.
