Hi! I'm Melissa Morse, the studio owner of Laleh Images Portrait Design, a full time boutique maternity, newborn, child and family portrait studio located in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada.
If you've ever tried photographing your children, you know that it takes a lot of patience, creativity, and a sense of humour. Oh, and did I mention it takes patience? Haha!
I have learned that sometimes it takes a little extra time to make friends with the kiddos and get them to like and trust me. Then they can relax, have fun, and enjoy their time in front of the camera. It also doesn't hurt that I am willing to make a complete fool of myself to get a smile or laugh, and usually not just from the kiddos. :) It also doesn't hurt to have a couple of candies in my back pocket just in case (with your permission of course!)
SO WHAT DOES LALEH MEAN ANYWAY?
The word Laleh (pronounced Lah-lay) is a Persian female name, which translates to tulip. The tulip holds a personal connection to my Dutch family heritage. Tulips are a seasonal flower lasting only a short time, and they are a beautiful symbol of the importance of capturing and making the most of those fleeting moments in time while they last.
HOW IT ALL STARTED...
I've always had a passion for all things creative and beautiful. Studying Digital Media Design at McKenzie College after High School was a natural choice, to develop the skills to transform my passion into a career. I've worked in positions over the years that include web and graphic design, operations, promotional products sales, embroidery, and logo design. The launch of my business came in 2012, originally as a boutique graphic design and wedding stationery design company.
Photography is my newest passion, which began with the birth of three new babies in my immediate family within 3 months. What better reason to pick up a camera than to capture those darling little faces as they grow and change? This hobby quickly became an obsession, and family and friends were taking notice, requesting my services for prom, family photoshoots, and newborn and baby photography. It was soon apparent that I wanted to focus on my biggest passion, and this became official in mid 2014. I haven't looked back since.
